How to Prepare Yourself for Patch Days

Patch Days sound scary but they don’t have to be! Here are some Tips and Tricks to help you get through it a little easier.

Let’s start with a checklist!

‣ Checklist

<aside>

• [ ] Have an organized Mod Folder - Check here to figure out how!
• [ ] Have a spreadsheet or mod checklist ready to go!
• [ ] Double check your Patch Day folder and make sure there’s no old mods in it!
• [ ] Make a new folder on your desktop or somewhere safe to put freshly updated mods into - many find it easier to collect them into a folder and then update in one go.
• [ ] Back up any Saves, Screenshots, Videos, Trays & Settings Files Such as mc_settings.cfg so that you don’t have to redo them in game.
• [ ] Delete “L” Files after updating mods, before opening the game

‣ If you don’t want to make a spreadsheet from scratch: ‣ Scarlet has a lovely one that works with her mod list!

‣Take care to backing up config files like mc_settings.cfg, if you accidentally delete them - check your recycling bin to restore them asap! It’s already quite the task to fine tune everything to your liking, having to redo them because you lost the config file is quite the headache!

‣Make sure to check your game & app settings to have auto-updates off if you don’t want the game to update right away. Playing offline with your mods in until they update or playing without mods are your only options.

‣DO NOT go into support chats immediately after a patch drops! Of course everything is broken. Give modders time to fix things before you run screaming and crying into a support chat because you were impatient. It can take anywhere from 12 hours to a month for fixes.

Most importantly: Remember that modders are people too! Many have lives and jobs and families to take care of. They don’t always have time to update as soon as EA drops a patch upon us. Patience is virtue.
